Islamic Year 1442 Hijri is all set to begin on the night of Thursday, 20th August. The first Muharram 2020 in Pakistan will start from tonight and on 21st August there will be the first day of Muharram.

As per the reports the Islamic Year 1442 Hijri is all set to begin in Pakistan on the eve of 20th August and the 21st August, Friday will be the first day of Muharram in Pakistan.
The details revealed that the 1st Muharram 2020 in Pakistan will be on the evening 20th August and will last in the month of September.
The new Islamic year in Pakistan falls on the movement of the moon. In Pakistan, the Ruit-e-Hilal Committee is responsible for the sighting of the new moon. The committee will meet today on Thursday to sight the Muharram moon 2020 in Pakistan, revealed the statement issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Wednesday.
The Ruit-e-Hilal Committee under the leadership of Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman will officially declare the arrival of the new Islamic year 1442 Hijri in Pakistan. All the Islamic proceedings are contingent on the observation of the new moon.
Muharram stated as Al-Hijra is the first month of the Islamic year. Muharram mean “Forbidden”. Muharram is the most holy months of the Islamic year including Ramadan.

- Rabī‘ ath-thānī
- Jumādá al-ūlá
- Jumādá al-ākhirah
- Dhū al-Qa‘dah
- Dhū al-Ḥijjah
All the Muslims in the world celebrate the New Year with the sighting of the new Muharram moon. It’s the most sacred month in which people keep fast and the tenth day of Muharram is called Ashura, which to Shia Muslims is part of the sadness of Muharram.
