Government takes back the decision of Reimposing Tax on Mobile Balance

Yesterday we reported that the cabinet has approved the mini budget, which will take up to 30% tax on mobile balance. After that, users will receive a balance of Rs. 70 when loading a card of 100 rupees.

But the government has refuted all the news regarding the re-imposition of the tax on the mobile balance load.

The government sources have been told that the decision to re-enforce tax on mobile phone cards has been revoked. Due to the end of the tax, the government has suffered a loss of upto Rs 1 billion. The federal government is up to Rs 45 billion while the provincial government faces loss of upto Rs 55 billion.

However, yet the tax will not be re-enforced. The tax re-enforcement case will be considered again in June 2019.

It is important to mention that the supreme court of Pakistan has terminated the tax in June 2019 on the mobile card loads. A three-member bench headed by Justice Saqib Nisar heard the case of self-notice against the tax deduction on mobile phone cards in the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

Supreme Court had maintained that taxes on telecom services should only be deducted from those who come within the tax net.
