Hajj 2018: Saudi Arabia Imposes 5% Tax on Services for Pakistanis. Hajj 2018 would likely to get more costly for Pakistanis, as the Saudi Arabian government has imposed 5% tax on Hajj services. Moreover the Saudi government has refuted to assign extra Hajj quota to Pakistan.
According to sources the government of Saudi Arabia has informed to the officials of Pakistani Ministry of Religious Affairs about the imposition of 5% tax and to stop assigning additional quota to Pakistanis.

The 5% tax on Hajj 2018 pilgrims will be for using the services including transportation, residence and other during their stay in the Kingdom.
This year nearly 179210 Pakistani pilgrims would be traveling to Saudi Arab to performed Hajj through the government and private Hajj schemes.
This year the government of Pakistan devised a new Hajj policy according to which the quota under the private Hajj scheme has been decreased to 33%, which leads the private hajj tour operators to move to different courts of the country.
The sources further revealed that the Pakistani government has asked the Saudi government to allocate more Hajj quota via new census, in this way the government could assign quota to Private Hajj tour operators.

On the other hand the Saudi Arabian government has refuted to assign more quota to Pakistan due to the lack of capacity in Mina.
Pakistani officials have also told Saudi officials of starting bio-metric system in Pakistan and requested to let off bio-metric verification on Saudi airports.
Due to the impose of 5% tax on Pakistani Hajj pilgrims, it is anticipated that the value of Pakistani currency losing its value and the pilgrims would have to bear costly trip to Saudi Arabia.
However, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has already taken the responsibility of bearing the extra expenses. Private Hajj tour operators said that the new Saudi taxes would be affecting them more.
