The Supreme Court of Pakistan has threatened to block YouTube in Pakistan. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has announced the closure of YouTube in Pakistan in an attempt to get rid the objectionable content on social media and YouTube.
The SC has taken note of objectionable content on social media and YouTube and also has taken notice in the bail case of Shaukat Ali involved in a sectarian crime.
During the hearing, Justice Qazi Amin remarked that we have no problem with freedom of expression, the people have the right to speak on our performance and decisions.
He was of the view that their private lives are being discussed on social media channel. Justice Qazi Amin inquired whether the FIA and PTA have seen what is happening on YouTube. He said that we are embarrassed as the judges gave the verdict yesterday and it started on YouTube.
He said that we are showing patience but it is uncontrollable and the YouTube has to shut down in order to take action against the objectionable content on it.
On the other hand the PTA officials said that we cannot remove individual content, we can only report it. Justice Mushir Alam said that YouTube is closed in a number of countries, put content on YouTube against the United States and the European Union.
Justice Qazi Amin said that how many people have been prosecuted for committing such crimes? The people are incited against the army, judiciary and the government. The court issued notices to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Attorney General in this regard.
